Hey there. I was recommended to this site by JRA and I hope to do atleast one track day this year. Depends on money, since school sucks it up pretty quickly. Any tips will be appreciative. I have a 2002 R1 and like to ride as much as possible, even though most of it is just around town.

Welcome to NESBA Glenn. It think you'll find out pretty quickly that everyone here is more than willing to help answer any questions you might have.

Let me help get you started off in the right direction. Check out the links at the bottom of this post when you have time. They will give you a lot of information and answer most of the questions you might have.

Since you're a student and will be on a tight budget let me suggest you think about Roebling Road for your introduction to track riding. It's a fun and fast track, and it's easy to learn...especially for a beginner. It's also the cheapest event on the Southeast schedule at $110 per day. I think you'll learn the most, and have the most fun, by doing both days (you also get a $10 discount on the second day if you sign up for both). There is a lot to take in the first day and you'll spend a lot of time and mental energy learning the track and getting acclimated to the huge difference between riding on the street and riding on the track. Hopefully by the end of the first day you will be pretty comfortable, and then you can use the second day to build on what you learned the first. Most importantly you'll have a ton of fun riding back-to-back days, and you'll come away a better rider by having the additional track time. If you get one or two friends to go you can split travel expenses, and camping is allowed at the track so you can save money on a motel room by staying at the track if you have camping gear.

Again, check out these links, and then let me know if you still have any questions.
