Looking to see if a nolan m104 would be Ok to take to the track in either a novice or beginners group.

No is the answer to your question. From page 16 of the rider's manual:

1. Helmet, undamaged, full--‐face DOT, SNELL, or European standard approved, with eye protection. No flip--‐up helmets allowed.

thanks for the heads up... will have to source another helmet for a friend of mine. was hopeing to get as many people i know that ride to come with me tomorrow. both of the guys i ride with have modulars, one a nolan and one a neotec. i myself wear an rf-1200 which should work for the event.
