April 30th @NJMP will be my first trackday. Just picked up a 2012 ZX6R thats in fantastic condition. New to sportbikes, coming from dirtbikes(trail riding). Protective gear is in the works. I have a canopy, tools and such for the day. Any suggestions on something that gets overlooked and/or forgotten about??? Looking forward to meeting some new people and gaining knowledge. Thanks in advance.

Don't forget your BIKE KEY! I've seen that happen too many times because it's not being ridden to the track.
Water and an electrolyte supplement of your choice, and food/snacks.
Extra gas, although it is available for purchase at the track, but $$$
Tire gauge, you'll want to lower your cold pressure.
air pump/compressor
chairs/table
Don't forget to put your number on your bike, large enough and good contrast to be readable by the corner workers
Have your chain on the looser side of the adjustment range.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Welcome! See you there! I'll likely be coaching in Novice!

I just registered for the event as a novice. Am I required to purchase a membership or can I do that after my first trackday , if i like it?

Welcome! You'll love that Kawasaki.

This is an old list of mine that may give you some ideas. The things I ensure I have before I roll are bike, key, & gear. I sometimes throw in spare gear just because you can't get on track without all of it (maybe a note for later, once you're hooked...like we are).

This older list isn't complete for me. Not all of these are good ideas, they're just ideas. :)

They're the best. I've learned to cut off the rounded inner end just a bit. This let's them apply additional friction and the outer ends to go in a little further. That way, the helmet install doesn't knock them out. One of those beanies I used to think were silly also helps with that.

I think the most important thing to bring to your first track day is patience with yourself.

That doesn’t mean a lackadaisical approach. Instead, it means recognizing the pace at which you can understand the instruction will probably be much faster than you can translate that instruction into consistent actions on the track.

It takes time to:
a) know the track,
b) get your eyes up,
c) be smooth on inputs, especially brakes and
d) execute all the various body position requirements.

Make friends with the Control Riders (CRs) and pick their brains. They’re all selected for their riding skills, their ability to coach and their positive communication style. CRs take pride in helping those new to track riding to ensure they learn good principles.

The rest of us in the paddock may be simply waxing about our favorite technique that may do more harm than good for a new track rider.

Good luck and let us know how you get along.
