Well it affect the safety quality of the helmet? I don't think creating space in the helmet would be a good thing.

I do believe wearing the box the helmet came in is not the manufacture recommended use.

I want my skull as close to the protective material in the helmet. This device seems to increase the airspace, thus increasing the velocity at which your head contacts the protective material (styrofoam like stuff) of the helmet.
