Looking for lap timers

Going to try Harry's Laptimer app this year http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Home.html

Had downloaded it last year and found it doesn't work well in pocket. Went a little further and got an external Bluetooth GPS receiver in the off season (what was that thread about offseason buying?) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006M49G80/ref=oh_details_o04_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 so I'm not tracking through the woods with Josh.

Also picked up a GoPro3 Black for Christmas from BestBuy for a steal (thanks babe!) and the Laptimer app will trigger the GoPro at start/finish through WiFi and then you can overlay video with the acquisition data later through a laptop. Did a few test runs in my truck around the neighborhood after setting up the 'track' through the application and it worked great. Data can be reviewed after session w/o video overlay pretty easily as well.

Mounted this Optrix case (which I modified to clip into GoPro mounts) on the tail for the phone to catch rearward facing video (need to find a good way to safety wire it too)

In theory this might be awesome....now, for reality I need to wait for first day out.

Between now and then I just might have to take the track bike for a spin around the neighborhood....after the snow/ice/slush is done of course.

Make sure you download the upgraded software for the GPS receiver from their web-site, it upgrades the receiver to the faster refresh rate needed for our speeds.

Eric - good point. I checked the receiver when I got it in January and it to have the correct software - was showing connecting to sats at 5GHZ rate, is there another way to tell? My neighbors probably wouldn't want me checking top speed readings in the neighborhood track (see video).

to make sure you have the race firmware.
It looks like the download link specifies an older version of the firmware so I sent an email to Dual to verify which version to use.

BTW Eric - out of curiosity, where did you mount the Dual unit on the bike? Was thinking about using 3M Dual-lock (so I could take it off to charge it) on the tank, towards the headstock - but thought there might be occasional blockage from my body su currently considering mounting on the tail.

Have you found something that works pretty well?

I mounted mine up in the nose of my bike with Velcro. Then pull it and charge it during lunch so it lasts all day. plastic/fiberglass doesn't seem to affect the signal so it can be mounted within your body work.
