Tire age

Question about how old is to old for a track tire? Just bought a track bike and it has Michelin Power Race tires that have good tread 4/32 front and 5/32 rear, but the DOT dates are 1606 on the front and 2405 on the rear. Any thoughts?

How much is new bodywork? Personally I would prefer not to ride on those tires.

I'd be leery of 6 year old rubber even if it was new. What you have now are rim protectors IMO. Get yourself some new skins and go have fun!

You can't just go by age. If you have questions about it, replace it. If you have an issue, it will ruin your confidence. It's not worth it.
