Race throttle for a 06 gsxr 600

I bought an '06 R6 tube from the dealer this year, huge improvement over the stocker. I'm not sure if the later years are the same but this is the 1/6 turn. I would suggest this to anyone on a GSXR, your arm and wrist will thank you and it was less than $20.

I have used PVC pipe fitting (forget what size) for my last 4 GSXR1000's with great results and zero problems. As a matter a fact I have used the same piece of pipe fitting for all four bikes.:D

The 2004 R1 throttle tube from Ron Ayers is $10.xx, and comes with a black R1 grip on it. I know, I got one for my 636 before I found out that my kawi has a 35 mm throttle tube. So, I threw it away.

I will probably use this mod in the future. I got the Rifelman's 1/5 turn throttle insert and it just looks like shedule 40 PVC that was shaped using a milling machine or similar. Nothing wrong with the Rifelman insert, it will work perfectly. I just think next time I will save $24.50 and cut the PVC down myself.

This has everything you need to know about using the yamaha tubes R6 and R1 with pics
For some reason the math doesn't seem to jive. If you have a 33.5 mm Diameter tube and you want a 1/5 turn then you would need a 72 degree angle of rotation, where the stock is 90 degrees.

Without making this more complicated that it needs to be with converting degrees to radians, you need a throttle tube that is (90/72)*33.5 = 41.875 mm

I had a couple of Yamaha throttle tubes laying around in my garage..been there for a while. It was one of those, "I'll get around to it one of these days" projects...we all have them.

Read this thread and decided to knock it out on my 06 GSXR600.

Took MAYBE 10 minutes...and it definitely feels like it's going to be an improvement.

So, thanks for the reminder...one less thing on my "To Do" list.

I think the gixxer throttle tube (not sure of years or models) was around 33mm, my 636 was 35mm, the 2004 R1 was 36.5, and the 2006 R6 is 40.5mm, but that is from memory and notes I have on a post-it on my desk.

I have a Riffleman's 1/5 turn throttle insert ($25 delivered) on its way.

I was going to use the PVC method but the Rifleman insert seemed too easy and I know it fits.

But, if I had the money, I would go for the Yoyodyne (euro) throttle. Supposed to be stupid smooth.

I would highly recommend a Rifflemans throttle insert. He is a member on Tlzone, and when I found out he makes them I had to get one. He also makes more then just the 1/5th... he also does a 1/5th.5 and a 1/6th for most bikes as well.....great guy, awesome service. His website is http://doublezracing.com/

D-Zum, what year and model Yamaha throttle tube did you use for your 06 GSXR 600?
