they wont let you race without one- you need to put the transponder number on your entry form. You wont get through reg without it and you'll mess up the results for everyone in the race behind you.

Another good entry level race org to consider is Fasttrax. They mainly run Nelson, but they also do Beaverrun, Putnam and maybe Bluegrass.
They have a decent race school that is accepted by Wera.
