Took a look at the provisional pole qualifying - the top FOURTEEN riders are all within ONE SECOND of each other. This should be good. Can't wait!

My money is Haga this year. He is so due for a championship. Would also like to see Spies do well also. It's not much consolation, but if we can't ride at least we can watch the Pros this weekend

WSB is where it's at this season. Seven manufacturers and a deep grid.
Update: 10 riders within one second in Superbike Qualifying.
My favorites are Haga and Spies this year. Just a damn shame we have to wait until Tuesday for Race 2.

SPEED airs race one on Sundays at 4pm, then race 1&2 on Tuesday. Sucks because you can't subscribe for live feeds on their website like on motogp.com. And my usual underground net TV feeds aren't airing it. grrrrr.

Spies takes pole...
2841-art.jpg

Superpole one
Ben Spies 1'31.069
Max Biaggi 1'31.402
Jonathan Rea 1'31.596
World Superbike rookie rider Ben Spies has taken pole position at Phillip Island in his first time in the series and his first time racing the Factory Yamaha YZF-R1.

The reigning and three-times AMA Superbike champion used only one of his two allocated qualifying tyres to set his 1'31.069 pole time. The Texan was a third of a second faster than Aprilia's Max Biaggi with Britain's Jonathan Rea in third.

Jakub Smrz rounds out the front row with Xerox Ducati's Michel Fabrizio heading the second. Stiggy Honda's Leon Haslam in in fifth with Carlos Checa in seventh and Regis Laconi in eighth.

Superpole two
Regis Laconi 1'31.050
Michel Fabrizio 1'31.276
Leon Haslam 1'31.342

Leon Haslam pulled a lap out of the bag with a minute to go to keep himself in the game, using one of his two allocated qualifiers. Regis Laconi knocked Michel Fabrizio off the top spot on the very last lap, and Jonathan Rea kept himself third, only completing two laps and sitting out the rest of the 12-minute session.

Biaggi went fastest at the top of the session, but was demoted to second place by Rea. Rookie Ben Spies parked himself in third as team-mate Tom Sykes was knocked out. Carlos Checa just hung in there, taking the eighth and last spot

ELIMINATED

Shinya Nakano
Ryuichi Kiyonari
Yukio Kagayama
Tom Sykes
Noriyuki Haga
Max Neukirchner
Shane Byrne
Broc Parkes

Superpole one

Jonathan Rea 1'31.906
Ben Spies 1'31.926
Noriyuki Haga 1'31.967

Britain's Tommy Hill had a nightmare in Superpole one only getting in four laps after his engine exploded yesterday. Both BMWs were out with Troy Corser being nudged down to 17th by a quick lap from former works Ducati rider Regis Laconi. Corser seemed surprised that he hadn't made it and was complaining of chatter going over Lukey Heights. Roby Rolfo was also punted out.

ELIMINATED

Troy Corser
Robie Rolfo
Ruben Xaus
Tommy Hill

I m not really sure how the whole superpole thing works.I'm guessing they
are saying they are eliminated from the front row not the race. There is no
way Haga,Corser and all those other riders are not going to be in the races.
It's going to be a deep grid this year. It's going to be some exciting racing
after a long boring winter.Yeah Winter sux!

Superpole is now 3 12 minute sessions. 20 riders start the first session. The 4 slowest are eliminated and can't enter the 2nd session and make up row 5 on the grid.
2nd session eliminates 8 riders from the last session which is then made up of the remaining 8 riders.

2 sets of qualifying tires can be used during superpole.

I was just reading about it on a racing forum.It's a F1 format.It's a bump out format.
Who ever is fastest in the third session gets the pole.

yeah, im reading about Haga apologizing and Corser being mad because i guess they both made the wrong choices and ended up low on the grid.

can u post the link explaining it please?

Here is the superpole format.
The formula is based on 3 sessions of 12 minutes each.
The first two are "knock-out" format with the top 20 qualified riders whittled down to 16 then 8.
The last 8 then fight out the final session for the front two rows on the grid.
Each session is separated by a 7 minute break and all rides have two qualifiying tyres at their disposal.
