My 2€ is go for the 600 unless your looking at an old 1000 meaning 1999, 00, 01 where the horse power was not in the high 100s ( what you wrote you just started track days ) but old bikes dont handle the same as the newer bikes, and there is always that feeling when you start passing guys...
