Usually when you see it in MotoGP it is to lessen the effects of high winds. That why you saw it on Hayden's bike at Phillip Island. High winds are common at the Island.
When I raced I had the "left side" thing going. Put on the left side of all gear first. Left leg into leathers first left boot then right left glove then right. Carried over into everyday life and did it for almost two years after I quit racing.

AGV does not build Snell approved helmets since about 4 or 5 years ago. Suomy has only built Snell approved helmets for Ducati and I believe they may have built them for Aprilia.

They're dirt tracks too. I think a AMA dirt track national is held at those tracks actually.
