Gixxer Shifting Problem

I have a 2004 GSX-R600 track bike with 4,500 miles on it (about 3K are track miles).

I noticed on my most recent track day that I missed a number of upshifts and the transmission seemed much more "notchy" than in the past. I adjusted the linkage which helped a bit but it seemed like I had to put way too much effort into the process than should be necessary. I have had the bike for about 8 track days and have had no real problems before. I want to get the problem corrected before something major happens.

Any quick ideas or known problems with that series Gixxer?

Anyone know of a good mechanic in the western North Carolina area who works on track/race bikes?

Thanks for your help!

The GSXR's have a pretty fragile transmission. Does it do it in every gear or one particular gear?

If it's one specific gear sounds like it could be a shift fork.

If it is all the gears and downshifts I'd take a look at the shift star to see if the bolt had worked its way loose on that.

Good luck! ;)

Thanks for the info Mike!

The problem seems to be in all gears on the upshifts. Downshifts are less noticeable... That will get me started.
