It's worse than I thought.

Guess I had this coming for standing up Scott. (sorry again buddy!)

In the 3:40 B seesion suddenly my bike lost power and sounded funny.. i thought i just lost a spark plug.

looks like the retainer broke, dropped the valve which then bent / broke the head off and it jumped around for a while in there before getting wedged into the intake port.

guess this an opportunity to build a proper engine now.. that one was bone stock.

Same failure for mine back in '07 at HPT. Funny that they both broke while CR'ing at a relatively slow pace vs being hammered in A.

Ouch, bummer

Do you think the head and cylinders are fixable? or is it new used motor time?

i think that head is toast.. i'm worried the bottom end might not be fixable either.

i have 4 dead / bad gsxr 600 engines at this point.. i'm thinking i'll piece a stockish monster together.

cylinder block toast as well ?

it is weird though the thing broke while not been actually in proper use.

How many miles between valve job? I just picked up an 09 750 and I have heard the valves or more accurately the valve retainers are very weak in the Suzuki. I had RM Racing do a complete valve job on mine just to make sure it didn't pop during the season.

bone stock, never serviced.. it was supposedly a low mile motor when i got it, i've put about a half season on it.

Maybe you should slow down. :dunno: Judging from those nics in the one picture. I think that's more than a .20" over bore to get those out. Plus I hear the liner stuff expensive. Too bad motorcycles aren't like the large engines I work on where you can swap in a new liner and piston with a couple bolts and be on your way. Individual head for each cylinder would be slick too for quick fixing stuff like this. Ahh, it's a give and take though. Good luck getting your diablo de quatro engine put together. See you on the 2nd?

i'm curious to see the top of the piston, sucks its the worse of the situation, but fortunately for you nearly every idiot trys to learn to ride a bike w/ a gsxr so there is a plethora of parts out there for them :D let me know if i can help any ;)

Yeah, that's what "sounds funny" looks like... :( Sucks bad that it happened, buddy. Get you a proper engine in that thing and come out swinging!

That sucks MAtt!! Hey check out US Chrome for any cylinder head porting and polishing you might need. We use them at work anr pretty reasonable, and do good work. you can always look at it as an oportunity to put some trick little parts and tweaks into the engine now. Good luck!!
