New to NESBA and the forum

I'm new to NESBA and the forum. I ride a 06 yamaha R1 on the street and track, KTM400EXC in the woods and KLR650 dual sport. Did my first track day 7/19/10 at NJMP. I liked it but was disappointed about the fact that most people didn't follow the rules. My friends and I were riding all day and didn't get any personal instruction. Maybe it was one of those days. Otherwise I had a blast.

Hello Tom and welcome to the forum.

From other dialog I get the impression the recent event at NJMP was a bit less fluid than most for some in the B group. First and foremost, read the manual on the main NESBA site. It clearly states if you want a Control Riders attention ask for it. They are there to help but not necessarily give unsolicited instruction. Next time, make a point to get their attention and ask for their input, I'm sure they'll be willing to chime in. ;)

I'm not sure how to get CR's attention on the track without doing something dumb. Do I ask them before the session?

:haha: I agree that it took me a session or two to learn the track but usually I had somebody in front of me slowing me down. There were bikes passing me on the straight just to hold me back in the corners. One bike passed me and then went straight into the grass on the next corner :notsure: My buddy got passed on the left side just before turn 1. Almost colided with the other bike. Looked like some riders were more worried about going fast then improving their riding skills. May have helped if CR's stepped in earlier as opposed to waiting until lunchtime also.

All right ... I got to stop complaining. It was a good time anyway

I believe you, but I don't remember reading that.

One of the things I like most about NESBA is that the CR's often DO often give unsolicited feedback and instruction on track. I don't always know where to ask for help. If I think i'm doing it right, I probably won't ask about it. I hate riding with other orgs that just assume you're there to turn laps and have no interest in actually improving.

Now that said, I think you have to take being "ignored" as a compliment sometimes. It probably means you're riding smart enough that the CR's don't see you as a hazard to be controlled. That doesn't make it any less frustrating, but it happens.

"Note: If you want help and aren’t receiving it, just ask. NESBA CRs are here to help you! Look for their orange NESBA caps off the track or their “Follow Me” shirts on the
track."

Yeah, I may have overly assumed the instruction part as the manual does state Control Riders act as instructors.
in the same section Beginner as the above. But based on context I would think that part would be priority 2, priority 1 being keeping the ducks movin IN an instructional manner. :D

Hey, it's all good. If any place on the net you can speak your mind and (possibly) NOT get raked over the coals, this would be it. There's some seriously cool folks here!

Thanks, hopefully it will go smoother next time I go.

Welcome! I was there on 7/19, and it was a crazy day. oil, traffic, crazy passes (which I have on my Go Pro - me getting inside passed on the curb and then the rider goes on to inside pass like 3 other bikes). usually its not that crazy, but I'm glad you still looked pass all that and enjoyed the day.

Hope to see you out there again!

Worst come worst, after your session there should be control riders giving feedback on pit lane somewhere, stop and talk to them and ask them to watch you next session. I had a hard time with the asking for help thing too at first, but once i found how eager they were to help, I wanted to get as much info from them as I could. Also, from what most of them post, if things get out of hand out there with riders and trying to win the trackday they have to go into police mode, and don't get much of a chance to provide feedback.
