Racing oil

another oil thread I know..i know...but
this one is different.

like most people, been running Rotella T6 synthetic.
but connecting some dots in recent conversations...seems like there is a better oil for our bikes, better than T6.
Something with lower viscosity, better wear at high temp/RPM's and longer life.

some of this is off the shelf, but some is special order...

Been using the Castrol for awhile now , works great .... have used it in both my wet clutch BMW's
made the shifting silky smooth , no false neutrals :D

Also used it in the gsx-r 750 .... nice clean shifts

Made specifically for wet clutch bikes .... try it Aman , you'll like it $8.00 per qt.

Mogul 300V best period,9 out of ten engine builders and teams from all series around the world use it regardless of what it says on the side of the bike.

This is what I wanted to hear...
thank you Chuck!!!
Once again, your experience and expertise are much appreciated!! :D

Chuck, how many trackdays would you run the 300V? Does racing oil not last as long as non-racing oil? Or, is oil analysis the only way to know for sure?

we run the oil for 1000 kilometers and add as we need. it's green in color, usually when it changes color I change it trackday stuff say every two weekends would be good. i'd go every five hundred miles but thats pretty anal..........Don't go there.

edit:doh.. I see there's a 300v for CAR and a 300v for motorcycle...
now..

You probably won't get a better recommendation than that.

You mean we'd have an oil thread closed out in less than 200 posts? Doesn't that violate some kind of internet forum rule???

5w40 seems like a good compromise between performance and protection for a track day bike. :dunno:

guys also, for those of you budget minded the yamalube product is what i stock on the trailer as the Motul is pricey.GENERALLY ANY MOTOR i build will leave the shop with Yamalube and it's readily available and I do endorse it 100 percent. MOTUL is just heavenly................ For the record I;m not into the whole Rotella thing couldn't tell you why performancewise if there is a difference but, when i tear down an engine i can see the difference. Most oils are real tacky and bond to surfaces,i want it slippery and all the garbage goes through the filter and then the bottom of the oil pan.

I believe it does violate the rules!
The thread is still young though.

uhhh...this is not a normal oil thread :)

we're talking motors that are built....your 600 may rev till 14,500.
stuff that's built with higher compression, ported heads, polishing etc etc can be raised up to 16k rpm's

I can guarantee you that anyone who's buildings motors to those spec's, which limit motor life to 5-6 races max will not run rotella, or any off the shelf oil. (because it is just that, off the shelf standard oil for the masses)
now you can lower the rpm ceiling and make the motor last longer and have a reliable build.

That's where people like chuck and hand-on experience comes into play.
People who are building these motors, then after six races either refreshing them or taking them apart to inspect.

For Example:
What do you want ? a 600 that makes 140, revs to 16k with a lifespan of 300-500 miles
or a 600 that makes 135, revs to 15k and lifespan of 10,000 miles with a oil like 300v vs 5000 miles with the tractor oil.

Now that's a new twist on a oil thread.... The fragrance... I'm not gonna lie I do love the way race fuel smells when it burns!!!! Oil not so much.... And diesel oil is horrible.... Had a diesel in the shop all week and I can't get that smell off of me.....

I ran Motorex for a while and it also had a heavenly smell. I thought I was crazy, but I guess they can make them scented. I went back to Yamalube and it smells like poo. Both seemed to run fine for me.

I just changed the rear diff fluid in my truck today. I have showered and gone swiming and STILL smell it!
