"Rumors of my death were greatly exaggerated", said the middleweight supersport bike.

Ducati killed the Superquadro Panigale V2, but is replacing at and the Supersport with something cheaper and in the middle:

KTM is coming out with the 990 RC R:

I'm waiting with baited breath and money in hand for the rumored Yamaha R9.

Not to mention the ZX6R is still trucking (though with huge engine problems I hear), you can still buy a new GSXR600/750 and I think Honda brought back the CBR600RR.

It's actually not a bad time to be in the middleweight sport bike market. I do wish Triumph sold a Street Triple to Daytona conversion kit.

I find it interesting that the 955cc, 155hp Panigale V2 is a "middleweight" bike. The 1098 base model had 160 Bhp and it came out in 07'... It's crazy to see the exponential development of the I.C.E . I think the 950SS hit the road going SuperSport nail right on the head if you ask me, I've been wanting one since it came out. Hopefully they fill the gap with something good. I'd love to see another L-Twin.

Yeah; I think middleweight is 600cc. Maybe Duc will create a single cyl track bike…

I just bought a Streetfighter V2, and I have a 2022 Panigale V4s and I think the Streetfighter may be the best Ducati that never got headlines.

They choke it down a good bit for supersport; not sure if it was the V2 or GSXR750 but I heard they don't let it go beyond 80% throttle. Might as well make something tailored to that class from the outset. I agree that a 150HP+ "middle weight" is kind of crazy.

Interesting. I always wondered how they let the panigale play with the R6.

:'( :'( :'( you have a 950ss?

Well, the predecessor anyways - the 939SS.

Mine is set up as the ultimate commuter weapon with some smaller auxiliary lights, a platform for a radar detector and a mount for my iPhone. I used it for a couple of years commuting back and forth between home and Orlando (220 miles RT). I usually left the house at 05:30 and kept it north of a ton for the 70-75 minutes it took me to make the haul. I really wished I lived in another state because I'd keep it. Super comfy but super capable in the twisties.

When the 950SS came out, there wasn't really a ripple amongst the global SS owners except for the improved instrument cluster. Folks didn't get too worked up about it.

I really hope Ducati continues that bike. It's a sleeper. I just have too many bikes in the garage and with the R9 on the horizon, it's amongst the donors because I just don't ride it here in Florida.

Yea, there is a hole in the market bikes like the SuperSport can fill. Torquey ~100HP, full fairings, decent suspension, livable but fun ergonomics. Take something like a Z900 and put a full fairing + luggage ready subframe on it. I guess adventure bikes kind of fill that gap but a lot have off road concessions I don't care about.

But yea on the supersport side things are looking good. I was gonna grab something older + cheaper to replace my Ninja 650 but with these developments I'm gonna wait.

wow. some ducatista I am... I didn't know there was a difference. I was under the impression there was only the 950ss with the 937cc twin engine. Im glad to hear you like it. I'd love to take it off your hands but i need to replace my CBR with something from the FIM homologated SS list.
