The WorldSBK Thread

Nice to see JR65 doing well after the soul-crushing disappointment in Australia. He’s only 00.60s off NB11 who’s clearly making an incredible debut in the Superbike class with a P1 finish back at Phillip Island and smashing the Catalunya lap record. DP09’s performance (granted, it was only a test session) was apparently from a new soft front tire.

Time’s below are from Day 2, not combined times.

1. Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) 1'40.172s

2. Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) +0.027s

3. Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) +0.429s

4. Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven) +0.490s

5. Jonathan Rea (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) +0.600s

6. Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) +0.676s

7. Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) +0.772s

8. Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) +0.789s

9. Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) +0.813s

10. Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Team Motocorsa Racing) +0.848s

And next up for WSBK, 22-24 MAR (same days as MotoGP in Portugal): Catalunya.

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain

Making its debut on the FIM Superbike World Championship calendar, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmelo promises to bring plenty of action to World Superbike. Having been a permanent fixture on the MotoGP™ calendar since 1992 – the same year as the Barcelona Olympics – the fast and flowing venue has witnessed classic races across all forms of motorcycle racing.

The circuit also becomes the sixth different circuit to host a race in Spain, following Jerez, Jarama, Albacete, Valencia and MotorLand Aragon. Therefore, Spain will join Italy in hosting a WorldSBK round at six different circuits.

Do we know if these tires are the same as available to us under the same model name? Or are the SC1/SC0 etc a totally different design than the ones commercially available?

The paddock pass podcast had a great interview a while back with one of the guys going to the factory and speaking with a Michelin guy. Nerdy stuff, but interesting to hear that the MotoGP tires are produced using special machines making them truly unique. The can only produce roughly 100 tires per day. And IIRC, at this point only the rears are made this way - with more machines due to handle the fronts in the near future. The technique the machines use made it sound almost like the rubber/bands are laid down in layers, sorta like a 3D printer operates.

Interesting R1.

Not the shock and awe type of race but an interesting race all the same.

SL14 was looking pretty boss until he lost the front.

P2 dominated for most of the race and then fell prey to a super strong recovery by P1. Normally pretty stoic, he was clearly disappointed in parc fermé with his P2.

P3 also made a super strong recovery compared to where he started on the grid.

Bummer about JR65's DNF due to a mechanical problem before completing a second lap.

I'm thinking NB11 will approach tomorrow's feature length race a little differently (don't get greedy too early).

Like excellent chess. Winner knows what he's doing, minimizing the shortcomings and maximizing the strengths of the package. Sadly, P2 will likely learn fast... :)

Great SSP race.

SM62 should be pleased with his rostrum spot but I'm sure there are some other habitual front runners who were disappointed in their finish way down in the teens.

Holy cow! The swaps amongst the top seven in today's Super Pole race were awesome!

P1 really has command of his bike and tires. This makes two races that he lingered off a rostrum position and then struck at a place and time of his choosing.

AI29 is definitely going to shake up the season.

I still can’t get used to the Dodge Challenger safety car. All we need now is a Wal-Mart sponsored race team and some mullets.

SBK R2 was solid.

Good to see JR65 solidly in the points with a P8 finish. Crazy how AL55 was way down in the order compared to his Phillip Island performance.

I hope he does it. He's the most talented rider on the grid. No one adapts like the Top Rack.

That’s some unbelievable racing. Amazing how the 2nd & 3rd place finishers were not even in the camera shot through all of that.

Gotta finish…
