Greetings hoping to complete my first track day Oct 16 at VIR. Have an 09 R6 Got a few questions?
1. Anyone rode at VIR in Oct is it cold?
2. Gonna be a beginner are there a lot of riders in the beginners group?
3. Have Frank Thomas 1 piece suit, A* smx boots, t-pro back protector, AGV gauntlet gloves, Scorpion helmet
will my gear be sufficient?
4. I'm 6'1" 200 lbs w/o gear will my stock suspension be sufficient?
Attended an AMA race at VIR last year with a buddy got the itch. Really want a safe enviroment to ride in and enjoy
my bike as it was intended.
5. Any pointers on suspension setup?
Hope to see some of you there. God Bless

October at VIR is going to be my first time out as well. Im interested how the weather is going to be, hopefully it will be nice and cool without being too cold.

Where are you located?

Virginia Beach, not really a fan of riding in 50* or below hoping we kinda have an indian summer around then. You going down the night before or riding down that morning?

VIR will be my first trackday too. Obviously in B group as well. Doing patriot and North. Hoping I don't regret signing up for a double my first time out.
Something like 7 weeks away. My buddy, who is a NESBA regular, and I are already counting down the weeks. Still have alot to do to get ready. Bike is torn apart in the garage as I sit here. But will be here before we know it.

October could go either way, my first track day it was in the high 90s. When I was on the track it did not matter.

My guess is that it'll be a little cool in the morning, warm up around lunch and then be great for the rest of the day. Like JerryC says above, you'll be at the track, so what does it matter.

Im probably going to load up the trailer and head down early that morning. I plan on bringing lots of supplies and tools, since the last thing i want is to need something and not have it. It could make for a short weekend.

The more i think about it the more im actually looking forward to the weather, it wont get too hot in my leathers, and more importantly: cool, dense air= more HP :)

I appreciate all of the warm welcomes you guys/gals are awesome!! Hokie really thinking about driving down that morning also but my buddy wants to leave the night before which we may do. Make a long day driving down on the track driving back. Yeah my trailer will be loaded to the gills also. Few more weeks feel like a kid waiting on Christmas. :D

Greetings. Patriot was my first ride. Track can be damp in the first two sessions, so go easy. GO PRACTICE HARD BRAKING. Can't emphasize how much you use the brakes on a track compared to the street (unless you are a squid). Your equipment sounds fine, but if you are concerned about your suspension, take it to the specialist that usually attends our events (Thermosman rocks!) Tires good? Fresh oil and filter? Have a great time out there, hope I can sign up and do one more day this year.

Welcome! You're gonna have a blast!!

I've never done VIR, but I've ridden NJMP and BeaveRun at the same time of year, also early spring. In case you don't know, NJMP is in New Jersey and BeaveRun is near Pittsburgh, PA. So you'll be a couple miles further south at VIR. Anyway, take it from me, once you get going you never notice the cold. Just wear a turtle-neck under your leathers.

To answer your other questions, the B group is usually pretty well filled whenever I go, but NESBA manages things well so it has never been an issue for me. Your gear is excellent, good to know you're already well set up. For suspension, I'm 220 w/out gear and still run stock parts. If it is set up well, you'll be fine at B-group pace. Most important thing is to have your sag set properly. If Thermosman is there, go see him. You can't go wrong.

Most of all, though, go prepared to learn and leave your ego at home. You'll love it.

1. It can be cold at VIR in October. Go to weather.com and look at the average temperatures for Alton, VA during the day you plan to go. Typically if it's below 65-60, it's chilly enough to worry about keeping heat in your tires. The type of tire you have will play a role as well, some heat up better than others.
2. Hit or miss, sometimes yes, sometimes no. NESBA overall is generally very good about keeping the groups from getting over populated. NESBA b riders are pretty quick, I doubt you'll have a problem with other riders in your way - unless of course you don't like getting passed.
3. No experience with that brand 1 piece, otherwise that'll get you in.
4. Stock is fine
5. Configure it for your weight. Talk to Thermosman for some quick pointers or suggestions.

Ride safe.

Thanks Rydell, and all who've answered my many questions. Had to replace the riding suit went to break it in riding around on my other bike it rubbed my knees raw from the knee protectors bit the bullet and bought an A*. I'll check in with the suspension guy when I get to the track heard it's pretty easy to really screw it up. Thanks again

Under Armor worn under the leathers make it more comfortable and easier to put on and take off. The heat gear is great for hot days!

You know if you wanted to ride share to CMP (Carolina Motorsports Park) this weekend it would get you ready for VIR in October and it's only $150 a day. Just kidding (unless you're interested). Welcome to NESBA!

Welcome! I am in Richmond... from what I remember of VIR in October, it was nice weather all day... little cold in the morning... 60s and then was great for the rest of the day.
