This will be my first ever event with an organization. I normally go to Jennings on open trackdays. What can I expect from the Novice class and what does the organization expect from me?

You can expect to meet some really great people, control riders, other members, staff, everyone is very friendly and eager to help. They will bestow there knowledge and experience on you and you will have an excellent time. Ride smart and have a great day.

A good place to start is to read the rule book, this will answer most questions. Make sure to attend the riders meeting for any track specific instructions AND to refresh everyone on the more critical rules like flags and passing. Try to get to tech early, that way if there is an issue there's time to correct it and retech. Most common tech issue is a too tight chain and missing numbers (tape numbers works in a pinch). MOST IMPORTANT....be ready to have fun. Ask the CR's for help, we've all been there, done that. Welcome to the addiction! :)

@Motofun how much play should my chain have? I still have my kick stand. I was thinking of just keeping it in place with a zip tie.

No need to ziptie your kickstand, they are allowed in all groups, just make sure it springs up, and stays up.
As far as chain tension, have it on the loose end of the range in your owners manual. If it gives a range of 0.5 to 1.5 inches, for example, have it at 1.5 inches. On the track, the swingarm flexes more than on the street and a chain adjusted too tight will bind that movement. A smiling chain is a happy chain. When you lift it up in the middle of it's length, it should be able to touch the swingarm.

Never been to cmp, but tech and reg are open from 7-8. Do check the riders manual, accessed from the main homepage, under "manuals and forms". It'll explain a lot about tech requirements, gear requirements, how the day is run, etc. If something isn't answered there, or you can't find it, keep asking away! We're all here to help.

I read the manual. I just want to get some clarification. I have regular riding boots with strings. At Jennings I just tape the strings down. Is that ok and will it pass tech? Second, I have water wetter in my radiator, is that ok?

Cool, thanks for reading it. Water Wetter is perfect. It's only required in A group, but we appreciate it being done in all groups.
As far as the boots, if they are above the ankle, technically they should pass. I'd upgrade to proper motorcycle boots as soon as you can. Laces can be a hazard, taping them will help.
Any other staff have an opinion on the boots?

Hmm. Daytona are pretty adjustable, but pricey. I think some guys mentioned trx. Do a search on here, and on wera.com for boots that fit large calves. Start a thread if you don't find anything. I know I've seen it discussed.
It probably was quite some time ago. Start a new topic, someone will know.

from the manual...."Motorcycle specific boots designed to protect your feet are required, and race style
boots with high quality armor are highly recommended. Work boots or fashion boots
will not be allowed. Rental boots are (may?) be available from your trackside vendor. (better to check this out.... just sayin)"

I personally have never seen lace motorcycle boots...inners, yes but outers?, (Harley boots???) ??? Safety gear is the first place to spend money...more important than a new exhaust or even suspension IMHO. Don't know the specifics on this issue other than what the manual says. Head, hands and feet are fragile (I know first hand...)

Hey PL, Get ready to have a great time. I will be there that weekend and you can come hit me up with any questions you might have. It's my first time at this track so I don't know where I'll be pitting yet but look for a red pop up with a red/white/black Ducati.

Alpinestars gore-tex
Guess I meant by model something like smx, smx5, smx1, etc. Lots of models have gortex. Not trying to bust your chops, I'd just hate to have you show up and not pass tech.

Are they above ankle? They need to be. If they look like shoes/sneakers and are below ankle, they won't pass.
