I think a few years back it costed me almost $200 round trip with a tandem axle trailer from Wisconsin to Pittsburgh, PA. Talk about rape.

Jeff, if you really want to cut down, take 94 to 290 take 290 to the Elgin Ohare, Elgin Ohare to 20 and 20 all the way out,but that adds probably an hour plus to your trip...
Ony advantage I see is that you can pick my bike up and drop it off when you drive by... LOL

Actually it looks like its only 25min more than the fastest route...

90 is toll, 88 is toll - so everything that gets you west as an interstate is toll...

or in a better way "stick it to the man!!" i guess i could put some super reflective clear paint over both of my plates LOL :D and just take the route i want

i looked last night and the tolls that are $.80 are $2.25 with a single axle trailer, the ones that are $1.60 are $4.50, talk about ass raping to ride on a shit road!!

I disagree... drive 10 miles in Michigan, you will love Illinois roads.

for a 1/2 to 1 mile. then turn north on prairie to the track. it doesnt take much longer and no tolls (at least between rockford and beloit)
I took this route the first time I went to BHF to avoid the I90 toll, and it shook one of the sheet metal screws out of my trailer wall. I refer to this road as "where pavement comes to die." Ever since, I happily pay the toll.

Scott, I believe that was Hwy 2. But yes, the short toll stretch of 39/90 is reasonably cheap, even with a trailer.

You could jump off I90 at Genoa road (Belvidere exit, no toll) and take backroads the rest of the way to BHFs.

It would save you two tolls ($5 perhaps with trailer), but will probably add 15-20 minutes to your trip. The question is, what is your time worth? ;)

$10 isn't all that bad so i'd stay on the shorter route, but somewhere the $39 has gotta stop, but then its gonna double here soon, so that 10 each way turns to $40 on just that

This way will add an hour or more to your trip...20 goes through every small town between elgin and rockford. But as Germany suggested you can pick him up, then pick me up too. I live right off rt20.

I think the best bet may be a combo of options...come into IL and take 290 up to 290/53 then take 90 west. get off at belvidere (genoa rd) and take the business 20 bypass up to beloit road make a right (north/nothwest) on that and take that all the way into Roscoe. turn north on rt251. take that north about 2 miles. turn west onto elevator rd. take that into town and keep going straight by the river. when it "t's" (forgot the road name) turn left (west). go about 1 miles and turn right on prairie. BHF is about 2 miles down on your left.

By taking 90 only between 290/53 and Beloit road you only hit 2 tolls on 90. currently both are $0.80 for a car. I'm not sure what tolls you would hit before getting onto 290. once off 90 its an easy drive and not much different in time because of few stops and wide open country roads for the most part, also no tolls.
