Roll call Road Atlanta Memorial day weekend

You know you just can't win them all so unfortunately I have to support my hobby with a real job. Winning at the track day is more about feeding my ego. I mean I was turning 40 somethings out there!
Does anyone know the web site where I can sign up for Moto GP?

Hey the only way you win a trackday is to go home in one piece with your bike looking exactly the way it did when you got there.

Yep that was Mike damn hate seeing that but what did he do crashed and got up and ran off track in the direction that would put him in the least amount of danger. Damn bro I am proud of you because you may have dropped it but your brain kept working even with the way your lid looked to get yourself to safety. Must say I saw way too many riders that had the ability to get out of the crash zone they had just created just hang out by their bikes after a crash. Get away and wait for Corner worker to waive you back to your bike. In fact wait until you don't see bikes on track and the crash truck shows up.
Mike good job post a bad situation. You must have been trained well :D

You damn right I've been trained well!!!!! I wouldn't be anywhere near the point I'm at (not that I'm all that ya understand) if I didn't have all the help I get every time I ride with NESBA CR's. I won't get into a name by name roll call here but I can't thank you guys enough. I got a good baseline from California Superbike School but the real training started when I got on track with you guys. I'm already jonesing for another track fix and I haven't even seen the orthopedic specialist yet LOL. BTW---I just purchased that toy hauler I was telling you about. Now I can sell the house and just hang out at racetracks right? Make myself a sign and look pathetic----"Will work for track time":D

Yes, you were scrambling when I came up the hill. Glad you weren't seriously injured. Bikes are just parts that can be fixed.

Yeah I'm good. Thanks for askin' As far as the bike goes, hell it was ready to ride the next morning. She just wasn't pretty anymore. That little detail is being taken care of and she will be ready to roll by the July fundraiser. I might not be 100% by that time, still have to see the specialist. I believe Jerry is taking care of things for me. Chuck has that silly part time gig with Dane Westby and the AMA. I think there's a race up north or something he just has to be there. :D

3 days at Road Atlanta and i am absolutely worn out, DAMN i love that track, sure wish we had the opportunity to ride it more often.

The guys at NESBA, from John Allen (JRA) all the way down to every control rider out there (Mike Rhue and Peanut, was great meeting you guys) i can honestly say this is one very well run machine. They started a new way to work with the beginner group this weekend that seemed to work out REALLY well. I just cant express how impressed i am with the way these guys run their days.

As for my experience on the track itself, since i was there just riding and not working, it was one of THE most relaxing track weekends ive ever had. I forgot just how challenging yet FUN Road Atlanta is!! I dont think ive ridden there in a few years, and tho it took me a day and a half to get the hang of everything again (its always taken me that long at THAT track, which is why i always struggled a bit there when i was racing), by the end of the day today, it was clicking REALLY good (i just wish i'd had the energy to be able to push a bit more, but the heat and all the laps in 3 days finally took its toll on this 52 year old fart. .38's was the best i could muster.

I only had one real pucker moment all weekend, and that was on Saturday. 2nd session, 2nd lap, im full tucked on the back straight, 6th gear WFO about 150mph, just before ya get to the kink (T9), there was only about 2' of pavement to my left, and some............well, to be nice i wont say what i called him at the track, lets just say some guy on a CBR1000 comes by me on that 2' of pavement about 30mph faster than me, his elbow hitting mine so hard it knocked my hand off the bar, my chin dropped and slammed the tank, the biked went into a quick tank slapper, and then it was over. Neither of us crashed, but as i entered 10A, i realized just how close i'd come to tumbling down the back straight at that speed and what the results most definitely would have been, and started shaking. I pitted in, went and cleaned the inside of my leathers, and then went back out.

the guy finally found me at the end of the day to apologize. Fortunately for BOTH of us, i had calmed down by then, and we just talked about what a bone headed move that was (had it been a race, i'd have been pissed but would have just chalked it up to a racing incident, but at a trackday, it was TOTALLY avoidable, and the conversation was over.

All in all, an absolutely FANTASTIC weekend with a top notch trackday org. I'll definitely be riding with them again. What a great bunch of guys!
Good you guys could make it out, funny that we talked on the phone about tires, stranger to stranger & then ride a year later..lol. Only riding bikes could do that! :) Those new bridgestone slicks are good!

Thanks for the words, you know you guys could come up to VIR, next, wait, I mean this weekend! :D Got alot of fast mid-atlantic members coming down, should be fun! (You could even bring Dickee if you had too...lol)

Glad we could ride together but even better the member came up to you & sounds like you excepted his apology but didn't let him off the hook. I'm sure he'll remember the conversation for a while & that'll help whoever he rides with going forward.

yep, amazing how tight a circle/family the racing community is.

I REALLY wish we could have turned some more laps together, I looked for you several times on Saturday, but i guess you were pretty busy with the B group.

As for VIR, you have no idea how much i'd love to come up there, but the reason i never even raced there in the last 15 years is the 2 days i have to figure in for travel. Thats 2 days without pay for me, add that to the other expenses and its just not in my wallet to make it up there. As for the fast mid atlantic guys, screw that!! i have a hard enough time dealing with the fast SE guys!!!

Get your ass back down here and do Tally with us sometime, dont let it be another year before we see each other again. I'm sure you'd appreciate being able to come to the track and "just ride" w/o having to "work", i know i sure enjoyed that aspect this weekend.

I understand the adrenaline and unexpected nature of our contact at the track can mess with one’s perception which is why I was more than willing to leave this at the track, even after you exaggerated the circumstances to track control and NESBA. However, there is nothing I despise more than liars and thieves… and no amount of adrenaline would have left you confused about when I “finally” tracked you down. Let's be perfectly clear here:

1. We were not anywhere near entering the kink when we first "met" (but that's a faster part of the track and makes me sound reckless... if you're going to be full of shit, go big I guess)
2. I did NOT wait until the end of the day to find you. I went straight to my trailer after the session to watch the video and get your bike number. I drove all over the pit looking for "either 39 or 99" and "finally found you" during the lunch break.
3. If I had 2' of pavement to your left when I started passing you, you must think you're John Holmes.

The 1st screen capture here shows where I was coming around you (notice the "2 feet of pavement" and the location of T9 WAY OFF IN THE DISTANCE). Not quite as dramatic as you want everyone to think, is it? Please note your bike is also upright here, no longer leaned left in T8.

The 2nd screen capture shows you leaned left on a very straight part of the track as I'm already committed to passing you. This was NOT expected, and in hindsight I should have allowed more margin for error. I owned up to this mistake at the track when I looked for you IMMEDIATELY AFTER.

The last one shows my position on the track when contact occurred. I moved as far left as I could in the

1. you are correct, sometimes adrenalin can screw the way we/i saw things happen. BUT, seeing your screen captures here, proves my point even more, yes, there was definitely more room to my left that i originally thought, so now whats your excuse for knocking the shit outta me? YOU made the mistake, not me, i did not say we were IN the kink, i knew we were approaching it tho, at damn near full tilt. I didnt "call you out" personally, no one here knew who the hell i was talking about, or is this a common thing with you?

leaned left? LoL i dont think so.

Dude, as i said at the track (and all i remember was i was out of my leathers, so whether it was the end of the day or not is moot, i rode the pits 4 times after the session was over looking for you and couldnt find you and it was QUITE some time later when you found me), but as i told you then, it was a bone head move on YOUR part, and seeing the pics you just posted proves my point even more. Ive been racing since 2000, been an instructor with Bargy since 2005, and CR'ing with another org since 07, and what you did was totally avoidable.

just keep this in mind, YOU made the mistake, not me. And it was a mistake that at that speed could have killed us both.

Oh, and for the record, i DO appreciate you finding me to apologize.

So we were nowhere near the kink ("approaching" is misleading at best since it's not even in frame on film, but I digress) and the 2' of concrete comment was off by at least a factor of 3. At least we can agree there.

I said both here and in person that I should have given you more room in my pass, but you did come over on me suddenly at a very unexpected place (confirmed by another well established rider behind us). White plate and years of experience aside, that maneuver was a contributing factor in our contact. Regardless of that, I was making the pass and it was 100% my responsibility to make it clean and I owned up to that shortcoming in person and again in this thread. As to why I couldn't pass "without knocking the shit out of you", I'm certain a more severe correction in my line would have put me in the grass and eventually the concrete barrier since I was toeing the white line when my head-shake ceased.

Please don't take the paragraph above as making excuses - I'm simply trying to provide an explanation for how things unfolded.

Ask anybody that has ridden with me and they'll tell you this incident is neither a reflection of my typical riding nor my personality. So I respectfully disagree when you say it's "moot" whether I tracked you down by lunch or the end of the day, because I assure you I spent time doing nothing BUT trying to find you from the time I got back to my pit. I have a lot of respect for and consider many of the NESBA staff members friends; you made sure they were aware of what happened Saturday and I didn't think your description painted an accurate picture of the sequence leading up to or following our contact. That and only that prompted my reply, not that I felt you posted enough here to call me out personally.

For what it's worth, if I had it all to do again I would still track you down to apologize immediately (assuming, of course, I couldn't go far enough back to simply pass you elsewhere).

I told you where I was pitted and gave you an open invitation to stop by for a beer. You, understandably, didn't take me up on it but consider this an open invitation should we ever be at the same event again.
